On December 17, the 71st Alumni Forum of Southwest Medical University was successfully held in the conference room of Haichuan Building at the Chengbei Campus. Professor Tan Jingyu, an outstanding alumna from the University’s Class of 2006 in Nursing and Deputy Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Southern Queensland in Australia, was invited back to her alma mater. She delivered an informative special lecture entitled Co‑designing Cancer Care Interventions: Integrating Symptom Science and Holistic Care into Clinical Practice. The lecture was hosted by Professor Chen Yanhua, Dean of the School of Nursing.
Drawing on her overseas research and teaching experience, Professor Tan systematically illustrated cutting‑edge practical outcomes of symptom management and holistic care in cancer nursing. She provided in‑depth analysis of research trends and innovation opportunities within this field. Her presentation combined solid theoretical insights with practical guidance, offering valuable take‑aways for teachers and students in attendance.
During the Q‑and‑A session, Professor Tan patiently responded to questions raised by faculty and students covering the cultivation of research thinking, academic paper‑writing skills, and strategies for submissions to international journals. She encouraged teachers and students to identify research topics rooted in real‑world clinical settings, attach importance to academic standards and innovative research methodologies, and continuously enhance their research competence and professional expertise.
This Alumni Forum has built a high‑quality platform for faculty and students to broaden their academic horizons and draw on professional experience. It also strengthened bonds between alumni and the alma mater, injecting new momentum into talent training and scientific innovation for the University’s nursing discipline.
Yang Renlian, Deputy Director of the External Liaison Office and Secretary‑General of the Alumni Association, presented Professor Tan Jingyu with an honorary certificate for the Alumni Forum.
